"Springa-Sproinga-Boinga-Thinga"
ThirdStone Gallery welcomes
Spring beginning Saturday May 10 from 7 til 10 PM.
ThirdStone Gallery creates
a unique welcome to the season this Saturday with the opening
and artists' reception for their new show, "Springa-Sproinga-Boinga-Thinga"
7 til 10. ThirdStone's new show, is a chance to introduce the
work of new ThirdStone artists, as well an interesting new direction
for a longtime ThirdStone favorite and beyond that, the chance
to see some new works from some other ThirdStone folks.

"Springa-Sproinga-Boinga-Thinga"
welcomes four brand new artists to the fold. First up to bat
is Tara A. Hackett with her charming pop-art paintings and mixed
media works. Also new at ThirdStone is Michigan native Laura
Wrzesinski, (now living in Tennessee), showing her colorful and
whimsical creations from her Flying Dog Ranch studios
.
featuring dog, cats and other creatures in vibrant, intense cartoon
colors and in some
interesting "situations", they remind one of giant
comic book art
.
This show will also feature
several works from local painter, John Rossi; his colorful oil
paintings represent an engaging mixture of mood and energy. And
finally, to complete the lineup, stone sculptor Casey Bell Joins
ThirdStone with a terrific array of his impressive stone "heads"
in a wide variety of sizes and configurations...
Longtime local favorite Tom
DePree has "sprung" up a batch of small works on paper
including watercolors, gouache paintings and ink drawings. The
strong connections to his well-known oil paintings is certainly
there, yet these pieces are a whole new way to appreciate his
intuitive sensibilities. They're both beautiful and mysterious
and the intimate scale makes them quite a departure from his
larger and more complex works. And speaking of those, we've "recovered"
a series of five older works of Tom's that have long been "missing
in action: and these absolutely must be seen to be believed!
Annalisa Snow returns to ThirdStone
after her intital outing last show with more of her amazing colored
pencil portrait drawings......amazingly lifelike and quite striking;
it's hard to believe these are drawings and even more astounding
that such lush images could be rendered on such a large scale
with Prismacolor pencils...
More good news for those of
you who loved the collaborative drawing series from Cleveland
artists Brenda Stumpf and Deanna Mance that wefeatured last time...
We now have the remaining drawings from their beautiful and mysterious
"Imperial Extracts" series here so you can enjoy the
rest... Brenda's solo assemblage works, paintings and drawing
will also be in attendance for the upcoming Summer season.
Douglas artist Alicia Kelly
will show a new grouping of her wondrous mixed media works. Alicia
combines traditional watercolor techniques with many other media
such as ink, collage and a variety of her own "experimental"
media techniques. Also featured are a series of tiny one-of-a-kind
works mounted as cards that are also designed to fit into standard
sized frames.
Liz Paxson has been busy lately
making art; we're again featuring several of her new mixed media
paintings this month.... This round focuses on figures "dancing"
across lusciously colorful and complex backgrounds.
Also featured this show are
more of the incredible etchings of Latvian virtuoso printmaker
Nele Zirnite...Nele's work has only been at ThirdStone since
this February and has caused quite a stir with it's exquisite
imagery and the incredible mastery of her printmaker's craft..
To complete the theme, multi
talented local artist Lena Aukema has two new series of cards
which incorporate her vast painting and drawing skills but, the
big surprise from Lena is the rollout of her artful "invention"
the "Vac booster Gizmoid and Sproingamanic Cat Toy",
a colorful dual purpose device that supercharges the performance
of canister vacuum cleaners and, is a most unusual cat toy. Who
says an art gallery has to be
mundane?
Holland area potter, Jeff
Blandford will also be showing a brand new grouping of his skillful,
colorful and highly imaginative ceramic creations.
The public is invited to the
artists reception and opening party for the typical merriment,
mayhem and camaraderie... and, to get an idea of what ThirdStone
will be up to this coming Summer season...
ThirdStone is located at the
corner of 64th Street and 140th Avenue, 2 miles north of Blue
Star Highway, just outside Saugatuck. For more information, call

"FRESH
JUICE"
ThirdStone Gallery begins
its 2003 show season this Saturday evening from 7 til 10 PM with
"Fresh Juice".ThirdStone's new show, is a "Sneak
Preview" of some new ThirdStone artists who will be featured
in shows later this year, as well as a chance to see some new
works from some longtime ThirdStone favorites.

"Fresh Juice" kicks
off with the works of Lithuanian-born, Latvian artist, Nele Zirnite.
Nele's work is well known in Europe; she's in dozens of shows
there every year. Her zinc plate etchings must be seen to be
believed.... The exquisite skill and masterly craftsmanship are
simply amazing and her imagery is all at once dreamlike, thought
provoking and lusciously beautiful.... Nele is a most welcome
addition to the ThirdStone family and will be featured extensively
in another ThirdStone show this Summer.
Two young artists from Cleveland
will also be joining the ThirdStone ranks with their first offerings.
Brenda Stumpf and Deanna Mance are previewing the "Imperial
Extracts" works from their new collaborative "Amalgamate"
series. Their artists' statement refer to the "unseen energies
and hidden history" contained within... Lush compositions
of charcoal, graphite and mixed media, the drawings all exude
a serene yet highly charged and mysterious atmosphere" We'll
also have several of Brenda Stumpf's solo paintings to give us
a peek at some of the work she'll have in her featured show in
the Fall.
Ann Arbor artist, Vani, another
new arrival to the ThirdStone ranks, joins the show with a series
of twenty new ink drawings. Pensive & mysterious figures,
faces and scenes; some wrought from swirls of lines and marks,
and others of a bare, spare delicate line; striking in their
ability to render the image with ultimate simplicity.
Lansing artist Carl Oxley,
the self-proclaimed "Pop Art Monkey", is yet another
new arrival to ThirdStone.... Whimsical and fun, his small paintings
are a visual circus of skewed humor and wacky wit... Definitely
an "outsider art" feel, yet living comfortably in the
world of contemporary "Pop"....
Grand Haven are painter Nancy
Price joins in with her wonderful "Shutes" series of
colorful and intense abstract paintings... And her figurative
painting, "Martini Mama" oversees the proceedings to
make sure all of her "shutes' behave!
This show will also introduce
the works of potter and glassblower Becky Wehmer... featuring
several different series of her beautiful and highly functional
bowls and a variety of her wonderful coffee mugs as well as her
elegant "Bug Mugs". We also have several striking examples
of her imaginative blown glass creations too.
Another of the new additions
hails from Beverly Hills Michigan...Valerie Parks will be showing
her "Paper Dolls Series #5". Dense, rich surfaces and
bold colors bring to these figurative abstractions a sense of
iconic serenity.
Holland painter, Mary DeKok,
the final new addition to ThirdStone, will be showing several
of her, richly colored abstract landscapes and one of her figurative
abstractions as well.
To complete the"Fresh
Juice" recipe, there'll be some new works from some of your
longtime ThirdStone favorites too such as Tom DePree, Holly Fisher,
Ingrid Lindfors, Heather MacIntyre and Craig Gudith and some
new creations from ThirdStone owner and "Assembloid"
guy, Bruce Joel Cutean including some very "un-Assembloid-like"
paintings (Hmm... Now that's a questionable concept!)
Also showing will be the photo-construction
works of Christine Haynes... Christine, one of the very first
batch of artists to exhibit at the gallery seven years ago has
returned to ThirdStone with a fresh group of works. And, just
to make sure a little bit more ground is covered by "Fresh
Juice", there are new paintings, ceramic sculpture, pottery
and assemblages from Liz Paxson.
The public is invited to the
artists reception and opening party for the typical merriment,
mayhem and camaraderie... and, to get an idea of what ThirdStone
will be up to this coming year...
ThirdStone is located at the
corner of 64th Street and 140th Avenue, 2 miles north of Blue
Star Highway, just outside Saugatuck.

THIRDSTONE'S
PREVIOUS SHOW:
NOVEMBER 16th Thru Dec 9
Energy Waves,
ThirdStone Gallerys new show, kicks off on Saturday evening,
November 16 from 7 til 10 PM with a collection of new works from
several longtime
ThirdStone artists and fresh offerings from a couple new artists
as well.

Energy Waves, ThirdStone Gallerys new show,
kicks off on Saturday evening,
November 16 from 7 til 10 PM with a collection of new works from
several longtime
ThirdStone artists and fresh offerings from a couple new artists
as well.
First up to bat is well known
Chicago Pop Art master, Peter Mars. Mars will be showing
a large grouping of his newest efforts. The new works, larger
and more startling than
ever, represent a new facet in his ongoing efforts to redefine
our typical notion of Pop.
Some interesting well-known cultural icons appear in these pieces
for the first time.
The new works are simultaneously elegant, humorous and compelling.
Also featured is Ingrid Lindfors,
with a fresh crop of her seductive Abstract Expressionist
offerings. Lindfors is one of very few artists who can successfully
work in this genre on
such a small scale. Expressionistic painting in the past has
nearly always relied on
large scale to be effective; Ingrids work has continually
demonstrated that the stronger
the expression, the less large scale is necessary and the new
works should establish
this fact firmly.
An even bigger surprise is
the large variety of highly unusual portraits (for
lack of a
better word), which represent another major direction appearing
in her work as of late.
Raw, edgy and wildly colored heads bring a new element of whimsy
and energy to her
work. They have the feel of some of the best outsider
work along with a vibrant Pop
flair.
Kalamazoo artist Kellie Pickard
joins the ThirdStone ranks with this, her debut outing.
A lush and exciting combination of rich abstraction, subtle coloration
and stark and
spare imagery bring a fresh new seasoning to the ever-changing
ThirdStone stew.
To complete the picture, ThirdStone
also welcomes new artist, Greer Clement and her
fresh and innovative printmaking as well as a sampling of her
painting and drawing
efforts.
The opening party and Artists
Reception is this Saturday evening from 7 til 10 PM will
feature homemade refreshments and comestibles in nearly as broad
a variety as the art
shown here. You're all invited to attend this special event to
meet the artists and join in
the fun.
